Simon served 20 years in the RAF as a fast jet navigator, navigator instructor and mission systems trials officer before joining QinetiQ’s predecessor organisation (DERA) in 1999. In his 30 years in air T&E, most of which has been at Boscombe Down, he has led various evaluations of combat aircraft and associated air weapons. Since 2007, he has held chief engineer positions for fixed wing and rotary aircraft T&E portfolios. Most recently, as IDT chief engineer, he created the vision for QinetiQ’s digital engineering air evaluation capability, now a future-facing multi-million pound investment programme into which he continues to provide thought leadership and guidance.

Nick joined QinetiQ’s predecessor (A&AEE) in 1993 and graduated from ETPS in 1997 as a Flight Test Engineer (MAA Class A). Nick was UK Flight Test Engineer on the Boeing X-32, Experimental Joint Strike Fighter and led the production of first Release-to-Service of the Eurofighter Typhoon. More recently Nick was instrumental in leading the introduction of the Test Aircrew Training programme which modernised and enhanced the training of Flight Test Professionals at ETPS.
